Medivir and Tibotec Pharmaceuticals start Phase III hep-c trials

Medivir and its partner Tibotec Pharmaceuticals have announced that they have started a global phase III programme with candidate drug TMC435 for the treatment of hepatitis C virus genotype-1. As a result, Medivir will book a milestone payment of €5 million in the first quarter of 2011. The phase III programme will consist of three trials. The first two studies, dubbed Quest-1 and Quest-2, will include some 375 treatment-naive patients each, while the third trial, Promise, will enrol 375 patient who have relapsed after prior interferon-based treatment.
