Sanofi-aventis drops programmes and cuts research spending by 7%

Delivering its annual report Sanofi-aventis has revealed that it has cut 7% out of its research and development budget.  Sanofi has also dropped its program for the cancer drug larotaxel and had terminated six Phase I development projects. Two projects in Phase II have been stopped; SAR407899 for erectile dysfunction and ataciguat for neuropathic pain. The company’s research and development portfolio currently consists of 49 projects in clinical development of which 17 are in Phase III or have been submitted to the health authorities for approval.
